Sydney... home of the famous Opera House and the 2000 Olympics. Sydney is the largest city in Australia with a population of 4 million people. Located on a beautiful natural harbor on the Pacific ocean, Sydney holds all of the attractions of a cosmopolitan city with a uniquely Australian flavor.
Many people have the mistaken impression that Sydney is the only attraction in the state of New South Wales. With a landmass greater than every US state except Alaska, NSW has a lot to offer. According to Fodor's guide, NSW "gives a taste of most of the natural wonders that Australia has to offer-from desert Outback to subtropical rain forest to snow-covered mountains-all within easy reach of the country's largest, most glamorous city."
Known as Australia's innovate university, Macquarie consists of a single campus in the suburb of North Ryde. North Ryde is one of the more affluent suburbs of Sydney and enjoys tree-line streets and numerous parks. The campus is within easy reach of downtown Sydney. Approximately 16,000 students attend Macquarie. Macquarie welcomes international students and has added a new internship program specifically for study abroad students.
Accommodation is provided in Macquarie University Village (MUV), which is located next to campus. Built in 2000 for the Sydney Olympics, MUV offers single rooms in 3-4 bedroom apartments. All linens, cooking utensils, and furnishings are provided. No meals are provided.
