How Is Your PC Today?

Running slow at all? When was the last time you ran a defrag on it? Is it updated?

Software Updates
All CWU tagged computers are setup to automatically download certain updates from ITS. Most updates will install automatically but some will download and wait for you to give the “okay” before installing. Students may want to check their personal laptops for updates through Start, All Programs, Microsoft Update or go the Microsoft website.

When the updates have downloaded, a popup window will appear and let you know they are ready to install. You can generally continue to work while updates are installing although your computer may be a little slower. The update window will prompt you if a restart is necessary after installing any updates.

Important: once the updates have started installing, please do not turn off your computer!

Disk Maintenance
Over time, PC’s need a tune-up by running a scan disk and a disk defrag. For instructions on running these tools, including a video, please check out http://www.cwu.edu/~itstraining/
