Connie Robinson

Background

I joined the Department of Sociology at CWU in September 2007 after receiving my PhD from the New School for Social Research (New York, NY) in May 2007. At CWU, I teach or will be teaching Principles of Sociology, Social Problems, Social Change, and Social Conflict.

My primary areas of interest are political sociology; historical sociology; social movements; and race, ethnicity, and nation. Currently, as a follow on to my dissertation, I am working on a book-length social movement analysis of the Yugoslav Committee, a émigré group instrumental in the formation of Yugoslavia during World War I. I also am developing two other research projects. The first project focuses on the link between consumerism and American national identity. The second project looks at the evangelical social movements who are seeking to disassociate Christianity from the narrow focus of the Christian conservative right and are advocating social positions traditionally associated with liberalism and the secular left.
