Degree :MSW - University of Kansas - 1994; Post-Graduate fellowship in Advanced Marital & Family Therapy at the Menninger Clinic - 1995 Background:I've been working in social services nearly 30 years, primarily in the area of mental health, with a focus on adolescents and young adults affected by mental illness. For about ten years prior to making my recent move to academia, I was involved in Family Preservation Services, providing in-home family therapy and case management services to families referred by Child Protective Services due to suspected child abuse/neglect. During that time, I also contracted with the Division of Child and Family Services to provide professional training to FPS therapists across the state of Washington, co-authoring several in-depth training manuals to guide the delivery of clinical services. In 2008, I developed and starred in the therapist training videos currently required of all FPS providers in the state. Recent Courses Taught:Introduction & History of Social Services Agencies, Social Services Methods and Casework, and Child Abuse Publications:Johnson, Cheri C. and Kirk A. Johnson. 2000. "High-Risk Behavior Among Gay Adolescents: Implications for Treatment and Support." Adolescence. Vol. 35 (140). DVD: "Family Preservation Training, Presented by Cheri Johnson."
