I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from California State University, Stanislaus and went on to receive my M.S. in Counseling from that same institution. I became licensed in the State of California as a Marriage, Family & Child Counselor and worked in a number of different settings. Eventually I ended up back at Cal State Stanislaus and worked for six years in their Counseling & Career Development Center. I am currently licensed as a counselor in Washington State and serve as the Director of Counseling Services here at Central. I love my job and thoroughly enjoy working with students on a variety of different issues.
Hello! I'm a Washington State native, born and raised on the "wetside". I lived in Montana for a number of years before returning to the drier side of the Cascades. I feel very fortunate to be able to live and work in an area with so many outdoor recreation opportunities.
My academic studies began with a degree in forestry and eventually drifted to degrees in geology, fine arts and psychology. I received my BA in Psychology, here at CWU, and my Master's in Counseling Psychology from Antioch University-Seattle. I have enjoyed working at CWU for the past 13 years. When not at work I love traveling to Alaska and Colorado and spending summers kayaking in Montana. I also do a lot of reading (the quirkier the better!) since I don't have television at home. During the school year I start each day at our awesome, new SURC gym working out and rock climbing.
Hi! I am a Midwesterner by birth - born in South Dakota, 8 years of university education in Ohio. However, I have chosen a lot of different geographic areas to add spice to my life. I studied German through Middlebury College in Vermont; this included 10 months at a university in Germany during which time I was a Fulbright Scholar. I have lived in California, Ohio, Kansas, Alaska, Oregon and now Washington. I have twin sons who provide me the opportunity to travel - one graduated from Macalester College in Minnesota and is now living in Seattle, and the other graduated from Cornell College in Iowa and is a functional potter making wonderful things in North Carolina. I received my PhD from Ohio State University and have been licensed since 1978. My professional interests reflect my practice settings as I have always worked in rural areas and needed to be a generalist. I work out regularly, enjoy cooking, petting my cat Stubbi, and traveling.
I earned my degrees at the University of Utah - B.A. in biology and chemistry, M.A. in educatonal psychology and Ph.D in counseling psychology. I have been a counselor and instructor at Central since 1968. My main professional interests are in counseling, the psychology of adjustment and the psychology of relationships. Otherwise, I am interested in English, philosophy, history, music, and theater arts and look forward to seminars, concerts and plays on campus. I have a season ticket to the Seattle Opera, and I am surrounded at home with books and discs (mainly classical). I am more & more convinced that certain books and certain ideas really are superior to - and more enduring than - others.
Cindy Bruns is a licensed psychologist in Texas (licensure in Washington is pending). She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, Alameda Campus, in 2002 and has been licensed since 2003. She has worked in a variety of clinic settings, including most recently at a college counseling center. She loves working with college students, as this is a time of life when people often are ready to look at the past, make some peace with it, and begin to experience life with greater authenticity and personal presence. Cindy is excited to be part of this transformative process. She also enjoys the diversity of experiences, backgrounds, and cultures that students bring to the counseling experience. She works collaboratively with clients and considers a safe, positive therapeutic relationship to be essential to the change process. Cindy will work with you to clarify your beliefs, values, and goals and help you find a way forward through your difficulties to greater connection and zest in your life.
Hello! I recently came to Ellensburg from Chicago and couldn't be happier! My two dogs and I spend as much time as possible hiking, walking, and just laying around in the sun, appreciating this beautiful landscape. After graduating with a B.A. in Psychology from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, I moved down to Austin, Texas for a couple of years before beginning a doctoral program in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. I really enjoy working with college students and find that this is a time that therapy can be especially beneficial, given all the changes and exploration of identity that usually accompany college life. In addition, I feel passionately about working with survivors of sexual assault and abuse and related trauma. Given how much I enjoy the outdoors, I like to incorporate relationship with nature into my clinical work as well.
I was born and raised in Alberta, Canada and am currently completing my doctoral degree in counseling psychology through Brigham Young University. My training experience has been in college counseling centers and community mental health centers; I also worked for 7 years with the Blood Tribe Police Service in various administrative roles, including 911 dispatch. My professional interests include crisis and trauma, substance abuse and addiction, cultural identity development and young adult development. My personal interests include cooking, sports, spending time with family and friends, photography, and most recently, exploring the state of Washington. I believe patterns of relational experience contribute to our emotional and social well-being and hope my clients will experience a therapeutic relationship in which they can safely explore new ways of thinking and being.
