Fraction of the Cost
Description: Software with video that enables all students to practice skills that have applicability in the work environment and everyday life (anchored instruction).
Includes complete instructions for 3 anchored instruction building projects including:
- Skateboard ramp
- Bench
- Hovercraft
Level: Middle School Students or High School students or adults needing remediation in math.
Purpose: Fraction of the Cost is intended to stimulate math problem solving of all students, including those who have had difficulty learning mathematics.
In contrast to text-based problems, the video format allows students with reading difficulties the opportunity access and engage in solving meaningful problems along with their classmates. All problems are aligned with the goals of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. These goals encourage teachers to find ways to help their students "develop mathematical habits of the mind" and "explore, to guess, and even to make and correct errors so that they gain confidence in their ability to solve complex problems."
