A World Connected Essay Contest May
  • Anyone 25 years old or younger when they submit their essay (regardless of if they are in high school, college, or not in school) is eligible. Also, anyone 26 years old or older who is a full-time student is eligible.
  • Submit an essay online with no more than 2,500 words
ASM Materials Education Foundation Scholarships: ASM Outstanding Scholars Awards May
  • Must be a student member of ASM International
  • Have an intended or declared major in metallurgy or materials science engineering (applicants majoring in related science or engineering disciplines will be considered if they demonstrate a strong academic emphasis and interest in materials science)
  • Have completed at least one year of college to apply for all awards
  • International students are only eligible for the ASM Outstanding Scholars Awards
Fulbright Program for Non-U.S. Students Varies
  • The Fulbright Program supports educational exchanges that strengthen understanding and communication between the United States and over 140 countries

Lincoln Forum: Platt Family Essay Contest July
  • Must be a full-time student attending an American college or university during the spring 2007 semester/quarter
  • Submit an essay via regular mail or via e-mail of a minimum of 1,500 and a maximum of 5,000 words on the following topic: "Abraham Lincoln - Lawyer in the White House: How did Lincoln's study and practice of law prepare him for the challenges he would face during his Presidency?"
  • *Note: You do not have to be an American student to apply, just be attending an American college or university. High school students are not eligible.
Northeast Asia Fellowship Program Unavailable
  • Designed to offer young scholars from Northeast Asia the opportunity to undertake serious academic writing on the management of internal and international conflicts and political change in Northeast Asia, U.S.-Northeast Asia relations, and to contribute to the development of Northeast Asian studies in the Washington area
  • Up to $4,000 stipend
John M. Templeton Fellowships May
  • College or university students, part-time or full-time, undergraduate or graduate, from all nations and academic disciplines are eligible
  • Applicants must be no older than 35 years, as of May 1, 2007
  • Up to $2,500 awarded for students
