Scholarship Office: Important Information

What Every Student Searching for Scholarships Needs to Know:

  • The beginning of the academic year announces a new hunting season for scholarships.
  • The season starts as early as October and ends as late as July each year.
  • Most application deadlines occur during winter and spring quarters.
  • For most scholarships, the awards are made for the following academic year.
  • Updated scholarship information and application packets are regularly received in the Scholarship Office or are available on the internet.
  • For general information and tips concerning scholarship searches, avoiding scams, budgeting plans, and more, visit the General Information and Tips page.
  • Students are encouraged to check scholarship opportunities regularly during the academic year on the Upcoming Deadlines page.

Outside Scholarship Information:

Various community resources including charitable and professional organizations, local businesses, unions, clubs, alumni organizations, and churches offer a wide variety of scholarships. The Search Scholarships page provides access to many opportunities offered by outside sources.

The Scholarship Web Site Links page provides a list of useful web addresses for scholarship information in your particular academic discipline.

The Scholarship Search Sites give access to several engines to expand searches. The services offered are free of charge. Scholarship information is sent to students who submit a general profile on line. In addition, these sites offer a wealth of information and advice about scholarship searches and paying for college.

Students who receive an outside scholarship are notified by mail. They are required to inform the Scholarship Office of all the outside organization awards they receive for each academic year. Copies of the award letters must be sent to: Central Washington University, Scholarship Office, 400 E. University Way, Ellensburg, WA, 98926-7504. If the donor organizations request a proof of attendance at Central before sending checks to the Scholarship Office, students can fill out a Verification of Enrollment Request and submit it electronically to the Registrars Services.

Please Note: Scholarship checks must be written payable to Central Washington University for the benefit of [the student's name] and mailed to the above address.

A Special Program: CAMP

The College Assistance Migrant Program provides financial and academic support services to freshman students from migrant and seasonal farmworking backgrounds.

The FAFSA:

New and continuing students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the priority deadline of March 1 each year in order to be considered for need-based tuition waivers and scholarships. Students with need (as calculated by the Federal Need Analysis formula) who apply by March 1 every year and have a 3.2 or better cumulative GPA will be considered for a partial tuition waiver.
