ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Central Washington University theatre arts department will hold auditions for the Dr. Betty Evans Original One-Act Play Festival on Monday, Dec. 3 in the Tower Theatre. Auditions are slated from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with callbacks the same evening from 8 to 10 p.m.
The festival features eight original one-act plays written and directed by CWU students.
“There is no need to read the plays in advance,” says Wesley Van Tassel, festival producer. “Just offer your one-minute monologue. However, everyone is welcome, so community members and non-majors should not be frightened off if they don’t have prepared monologues. If you don’t have a prepared monologue just bring a poem or a paragraph from a story to read aloud.”
Community members and theatre majors currently involved in “Man of La Mancha” rehearsals also are welcome to audition for the festival.
“We need lots of people and everyone will be considered,” says Van Tassel. “The one-act play festival is also a good way for non-majors and community members to get involved without the huge time commitment you would find in a mainstage production.”
Technical rehearsals are the weekend of March 2 and performances are March 4-9, so those auditioning need to be available on those dates.
