ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington University’s theatre arts department will hold auditions for the winter quarter production of “Man of La Mancha” on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Tower Theatre.
Based on Cervantes’ “Don Quixote,” this play-within-a-play tells the poignant story of a dying old man whose impossible dream takes over his mind. The play features such well-known tunes as: “It’s All the Same,” “Dulcinea,” “I’m Only Thinking of Him,” “The Impossible Dream, I Really Like Him” and “Little Bird.”
According to director Terri Brown, the two primary leads have been cast. CWU theatre arts professor Michael J. Smith will play the role of Don Quixote, and Kathleen Sasnett will portray Aldonza. However, there are still nearly 20 roles to be cast.
Those auditioning are asked to prepare a one-minute monologue and 16 bars, or one verse, of a song.
“Those who don’t have a prepared monologue are still encouraged to audition and can read a poem or something,” says Brown.
Callbacks will be posted in the theatre arts department on Nov. 14 and held that evening in McConnell Auditorium.
Rehearsals will begin Nov. 26. Performance dates are Jan. 31 through Feb. 3 and Feb. 7-9. Those auditioning should be available for the rehearsal and performance schedule.
