Ellensburg, WA - Central Washington University President Jerilyn S. McIntyre has announced that Dr. Charlotte E. Tullos, a professor of counseling/consultant at Henderson State University (HSU) in Arkadelphia, Ark., will become CWU vice president for student affairs and enrollment management on July 1.
The opportunity to become part of a new administrative team at CWU attracted her to the position, Tullos says.
"That's really exciting for an administrator; to come in with a whole new team with great new ideas and attitudes," she adds. "And, I'm particularly attracted to the president, because I've known her before and I know what kind of leader she is."
Before returning to a faculty post in 2000, Tullos served for three years as vice president for institutional advancement at HSU and secretary for the Henderson State University Foundation board. In 1997, she was the HSU vice president for student services, following a six-year stint as vice president for student development at Louisiana College, Pineville.
In addition, Tullos has served as director of the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), Hattiesburg, office of career planning and placement, student orientation and retention, and academic advisement center for general studies, student, career development center, cooperative education and adult services.
Her specialty areas are strategic planning, staff development and team building, student affairs programming, enrollment planning and student retention research.
"The areas of enrollment management and student affairs have been the highlights of my career," Tullos notes. "I look forward to working with the staff at Central in both those areas to take advantage of opportunities that will be made available to us in the future."
Tullos holds a doctorate in education from USM, where she specialized in adult education/counseling psychology. She also participated in the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University and the Carnegie Mellon College management program. In addition to chairing numerous university committees, she is involved in professional associations, and active in a number of civic organizations, including serving as school board president, vice president of the Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Arkansas Chamber of Commerce Board.
She was selected from more than 50 candidates who applied during a nationwide search. They were screened by a university search committee comprised of faculty, administrators, staff and students, chaired by Dr. Terry Martin, CWU English professor.
"We're very excited to have Dr. Tullos join us as part of the CWU community," Martin says. "She has a strong record of cabinet-level administrative experience at a variety of higher education institutions. She clearly understands the connections between student services and academic programs. The depth and breadth of her knowledge and expertise in both student affairs and enrollment management will make her a great asset to our university."
