'9/11: Remembering The Heroes' At CWUSeptember 10, 2003Contact: Lola Gallagher (509-963-1677/fax 509-963-3561/e-mail: gallaghl@cwu.edu)ELLENSBURG, Wash.-- With the second anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack coming up tomorrow, the images of its horror and heroism are being revisited in a variety of events around the country, including at Central Washington University. In remembrance of the victims of the tragedy, the university will host an exhibit titled "9/11: Remembering the Heroes." To be unveiled Thursday, Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. in the Samuelson Union Building Yakama Room, it will remain on display from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through Oct. 1. "We are leaving it up for several weeks to allow our students to see it when they come back to school," John Drinkwater, director of CWU Campus Life, says. Through pictures and bios, the display honors those who died in the 9/11 tragedy. This project is motivated by a student commitment to honoring the memory of the more than 3,000 individuals who perished, and was made possible through the efforts of many volunteers, according to Drinkwater. Along with visiting the new display, CWU President Jerilyn S. McIntyre is encouraging students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the extended university community to take time to honor the memory of those who died through a personal moment of silence, or by engaging in volunteer activities. "It is still appropriate for us to look back and remember the victims of 9/11," McIntyre says. "My personal resolve is never to forget the innocent individuals who lost their lives in the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania." |
