WINTER ADVENTURE SERIES HITS CWUOctober 30, 2006 ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington University's annual Winter Adventure Series will feature three film nights along with the annual Winterfest and Outdoor Gear Swap. The series begins Wednesday, Nov. 8, when representatives from ski resorts and winter sports gear offer a taste of the upcoming ski season during Winterfest, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union and Recreation Center Pit. That evening, two screenings are planned of "Off the Grid," by ski and snowboard filmmaker Warren Miller, which features white-knuckle stunts by some of the world's best athletes. Show times are 7 and 9:30 p.m. in the Student Union Theatre. Tickets are $8 for CWU students and university Recreation Center members, $10 general admission. Those purchasing the first 200 tickets (per show) will receive a free lift ticket to Mission Ridge. Door prizes will also be awarded. The Outdoor Gear Swap will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 8, and Thursday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Gear to be swapped will be accepted at the university's Outdoor Pursuits and Rentals office beginning Nov. 1. For more information, call 509-963-3537 or visit www.cwu.edu/~rec. Independent snowboard films by Think, Thank Productions will be shown on Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the Student Union Theatre. CWU students and Recreation Center members will be admitted free, while general admission is $5. In addition to door prizes, there will be a $5 raffle for a season pass to The Summit at Snoqualmie. The series culminates with the Banff Mountain Film Festival, a collection of action-packed shorts showcasing the best in mountain culture. The festival is $8 for CWU students and Recreation Center members, $12 general admission. Outdoor Pursuits and Rentals, University Recreation, Mountain High Sports, Mission Ridge and The Summit at Snoqualmie sponsor the Winter Adventure Series.
