'Ecstacy In Numbers' To Perform November 4 At CWUOctober 27, 2005Contact: Chris Bruya (509-963-1426/fax 509-963-1239/e-mail: bruyac@cwu.edu) ELLENSBURG , Wash. - "Ecstasy In Numbers," (EIN) a perennial favorite at "Jazz in the Valley," will return to Ellensburg for a performance at the Central Washington University. Led by Ellensburg native Garey Williams, EIN will take to the stage in the music building concert hall on Friday, Nov. 8, at 8 p.m. Admission is $5. The group's sound combines jazz, R&B, funk, reggae, Latin, rock and world beat music. Rhythm Magazine describes EIN as "one of Seattle's brightest fusion acts," while FUSE Magazine writes they are "One of the tightest bands you will ever find." Band members Mike Mattingly, guitar; Rick White, bass; and Williams, drums, have been headliners at a number of Seattle and Northwest clubs and festivals. Mattingly, a CWU alumnus, was the guitarist for former CWU music Professor John Moawad's jazz band when it won the 1981 West Coast Collegiate Jazz Festival in Berkley, Calif. Williams is also a CWU alumnus and has served with the music department faculty. He formed the present "Ecstasy In Numbers" band in 1991. The progressive jazz/rock sound of their CDs "Spellbound" and "The Search" have enjoyed sales and airplay on radio stations throughout the Northwest and in Europe. Modern Drummer magazine reviewed "Spellbound" and found "There is not a standout track on the disc; they are ALL outstanding." The trio will perform numerous selections from their CD recordings, which will be available for purchase at the concert. The CWU concert will supplement Garey's scheduled clinics with both CWU and Ellensburg High School music students, made possible through support of Jazz in the Valley, Sabian cymbal company and the CWU music department. For more information about the performance, or for persons of disability to arrange for reasonable accommodation, call (509) 963-1216 or (for the hearing impaired) TDD (509) 963-2143. |
