'Sex Signals!' Seen At CWUOctober 26, 2004Contact: Nicole Otto (509-963-3233/fax 509-963-1813/e-mail: otton@cwu.edu) ELLENSBURG, Wash. - "Sex Signals" will be seen Wednesday, Nov. 3, at Central Washington University. "Sex Signals," a provocative look at the issues of dating, sex and, ultimately, date rape on college campuses, is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Samuelson Union Building Theater. Although the message is serious, the production blends improvisation, education and humor to engage audiences in a candid discussions about how we treat one another. Created and first performed in 2000 by Christian Murphy and Gail Stern, owners of Catharsis Productions, the production has now been presented at more than 200 universities. The 75-minute, two-person play explores how social mores, mixed messages, unrealistic fantasies and false preconceptions of the opposite sex contribute to misunderstanding and miscommunication often found in dating. The actors then demonstrate how that can lead to sexual assault, even between two normally well-intentioned people. At the end of the play, the audience provides solutions for better communication involving interpersonal sexual relationships. The free, public presentation is sponsored by the Wildcat Wellness Center, university housing and new student programs, and SAFE (Students for an Assault Free Environment). For more information, or for persons of disability to arrange for reasonable accommodation, call (509) 963-3233, or (for the hearing impaired) TDD (509) 963-2143. |
