News and Headlines : Noted Storyteller comes to CWU |
NOTED STORYTELLER COMES TO CWUOctober 20, 2006Ellensburg, Wash. - Throughout human history, stories have been used to explain the environment, honor the past, entertain fantastic notions and strengthen cultural community. So says Rosemary Vohs, a storytelling expert, who will visit Central Washington University on Thursday, Oct. 26, to discuss "Storytelling: Revival of a Lost Art." Her free, public presentation is slated for 7 p.m. in Grupe Center. Designed for an adult audience, Vohs will tell stories and discuss what they say about the people who created them, "Storytelling is a celebration of the diversity and commonality of all peoples past and present," Vohs says. An award winning performer, she has told tales in England, Australia, Southeast Asia and Canada as well the Pacific Northwest. Vohs, who teaches a variety of courses at Western Washington University, is also editor of the Washington Storytelling Newsletter, co-producer of the Bellingham Storytelling Festival and co-founder of the Voices of the Ancestors Oral History Project. She also serves as Washington State liaison for the National Storytelling Network and is a member of the National Speakers Association.
