CWU Honors Distinguished PhilanthropistsOctober 5, 2007 ELLENSBURG, Wash.-- Central Washington University has announced the recipients of its 2007 Distinguished Philanthropy Awards. Catherine Hall Moe, a longtime Ellensburg, Wash., resident, is being honored as a 2007 Distinguished Philanthropist in recognition of her years of service and support to CWU and its students. Moe established an endowed scholarship, which supports scholarships for students attending Central. The Boeing Company is being honored as the 2007 Distinguished Corporate Philanthropist in recognition of its support in the form of scholarship awards. Boeing is the world's leading aerospace company and one of the leading exporters in the U.S. Founded in Seattle in 1916 Boeing is the largest private employer and high-tech firm in Washington state. Boeing customers and manufacturing/supplier operations are located throughout the world. Last year, Boeing, its employees and retirees invested a total of $48.2 million in local Puget Sound communities. Boeing supports a broad range of charitable, educational, arts and social service programs. For the past 12 years, Boeing has been a steadfast supporter of student scholarships at CWU. Boeing scholarship awards have supported students in a variety programs in the College of Business and the College of Education and Professional Studies. CWU Distinguished Philanthropy Award Recipients will be honored at the Crimson and Black Gala in the CWU Student Union Ballroom today, Friday, October 5, 2007. The ceremony gets underway at 6 p.m. The Crimson and Black Gala is the public kick off for a $21 million comprehensive gifts campaign, Transforming Lives, the campaign for Central Washington University, announced by President Jerilyn S. McIntyre on October 2, 2007 at the State of the University Address. Transforming Lives has raised $18 million to date through personal contact with a number of CWU alumni and Central's corporate and foundation donors.
