ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Stating its appreciation for her ability
to create a strong management team and to lead the university forward
in meeting its strategic goals, the Central Washington University board
of trustees (BOT) has voted unanimously to extend to President Jerilyn
S. McIntyre a rolling three-year contract, effective July 1, 2002 to
June 30, 2005.
“A key indicator of a strong leader is the ability to form a
strong management team,” explains Gwen Chaplin, chair of the CWU board.
“Jeri has not only proved to be a great leader, she has been able to
attract and hire a highly qualified and capable management team. We’re
extremely pleased with her accomplishments and with this new team.”
Chaplin noted several of McIntyre’s other accomplishments, such as the
creation and implementation of a strategic plan, an effective
relationship with the legislature, a dramatic turnaround in enrollment
and an overall feeling of optimism universitywide.
“There’s just a good feeling on campus, a feeling we haven’t
experienced in a while,” Chaplin describes. “There’s a sense that CWU
can accomplish anything it wants to, and we attribute that cultural
shift to Jeri’s vision and leadership.”
The BOT had earlier considered extending a pay raise to
McIntyre for her effective work, but McIntyre had indicated that she
would decline a raise. Instead, the board elected the rolling
three-year contract as an indication of their confidence in McIntyre’s
leadership. Her current contract would have expired in June 2003
