ELLENSBURG , Wash. - As part of its world tour, the Harlem Gospel Choir will perform during Homecoming week at Central Washington University. The free, public performance, sponsored by the university's diversity education center, is set Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. in the music building concert hall, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for CWU students with ID. General admission seating begins at 6:45 p.m.

Founded in 1986 by Allen Bailey, the choir is comprised of the best singers and musicians from churches in Harlem. Through music and awe-inspiring performances, the choir shares its message of love, peace and harmony with thousands of people around the world. This year's tour includes stops across the United States and in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Italy, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

"Regardless of the language and the country, everyone who comes to our concerts has the spirit," Bailey says. "I think the reason why we are so popular is that it's uplifting. With all the things going on in the world, people want to be inspired."

The group's tour will help raise money for children's charities and for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
