CWU 'Horn-In' Music Recital Free And Open To The PublicNovember 4, 2004Contact: Jeff Snedeker (509/963-1226/FAX 509-963-1239/e-mail: snedeker@cwu.edu) ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Jeffrey Snedeker, Central Washington University music professor, will host Ellen Campbell from the University of Oregon and Kathleen Vaught Farner from Pacific Lutheran University in a three-horn performance on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 4 p.m. in the recital hall of the new state-of-the-art CWU music education building. The event is free and open to the public. Solo, duo and trio horn performances, with some accompanied by pianist Teresa Harbaugh, will cover a range of the horn's history including hunting music and music by Scandinavian, American, Italian and German Composers. Prominently featured will be "Raga" by Wolfgang Plagge, "Animal Ditties" by Anthony Plog, "La Chasse" (The Hunt) by John Barrows, and "Suite for Unaccompanied Horn" by Jeff Snedeker. Snedeker has been a horn professor at CWU since 1991. His duties include teaching horn, music history, brass literature and pedagogy. He also directs the CWU brass choir and horn ensemble. His performance history covers a full range of musical styles including jazz and contemporary. He has held positions and played extra horn with regional, metropolitan, and festival orchestras in Wisconsin, Ohio, New Mexico, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Virginia and Michigan. He currently performs with the Yakima Symphony. Ellen Campbell joined the University of Oregon music faculty in 1994 and is currently an associate professor of horn, chair of performance studies and chair of brass. She previously held positions on the faculty at Southwest Texas State University and University of New Mexico. Campbell has performed as a principal horn with the Santa Fe Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony and Austin Chamber Orchestra. Kathleen Vaught Farner is a professor of music at Pacific Lutheran University where she teaches horn and performs with both the Camas Quintet and the Lyric Brass Quintet. Farner made her solo debut at the age of 17 with the Honolulu Symphony and has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Delaware Symphony and the Richmond Symphony.
