CWU Names New Assistant V.P. For Human Resources

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington University has announced the appointment of Sherer Holter, as the new university assistant vice president for human resources, effective Jan. 3, 2006.

"She is a highly respected professional in both the public and private sectors," says Rich Corona, vice president for business and financial affairs. "She is already considered to be one of the best human resource officers in the state of Washington and will be a great addition to the Central management team."

A native of South Carolina, Holter has more than 25 years experience in executive human resources positions.

She most recently led the human resources division as its director within the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services in Olympia. Holter previously served as employee relations director for the City/County of Denver's Career Service Authority and owned a human resources consulting business in Colorado; was administrator for Westbridge and Mental Health Management and assistant administrator for Desert Vista hospital in Arizona; and was human resource director and assistant executive director of Charter Rivers Hospital and employee relations specialist with SC Human Resource Management, Columbia, S.C.

In addition, she has written and published a book and has done volunteer work in the aging and mental health fields.

Holter holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in business and education from the University of South Carolina, and a Juris Doctor from Western State University College of Law. She is also a member of the Texas Bar Association.

Holter was one of six finalists for the position, chosen from a pool of nearly 100 candidates who applied during a nationwide search. They were screened and selected by a university search committee comprised of university faculty and staff members, chaired by Traci Klein, CWU assistant director of employment and staff personnel services.

Holter will replace Ona Youmans, who will retire March 31, 2006. Youmans has been on the university staff since July 1974.
