CWU Trustees Appointed by Governor

ELLENSBURGWash. - Gov. Chris Gregoire has appointed Patricia Mattsen Notter, architect and retired public works commissioner for the City of Wenatchee, and David S. Valdez, senior vice president for Verizon Communications to Central Washington University's Board of Trustees.

"We are pleased that Pat and David are joining Central's Board of Trustees," said President Jerilyn S. McIntyre. "Their dedication to education and to the state of Washington will be great assets to Central Washington University."

Notter, an entrepreneur, was an architectural designer and draftsman in Wenatchee from 1980-1989 and The City of Wentachee Public Works Commissioner from 1994-2000.

Notter has been active in community leadership in Wenatchee and East Wenatchee since 1980 and is currently the Washington State Representative for the Democratic National Committee.

She received her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design from the University of Washington with graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley.

Notter resides in Wenatchee with her husband David.

Valdez has served as the senior vice president for public affairs, policy and communications at Verizon Northwest since 2004.

He was responsible for the company's regulatory, legislative, and external affairs initiatives in Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Prior to Verizon, Valdez served as an attorney-advisor with the Office of Chief Counsel at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Valdez received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from California State University, Northridge. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Rutgers School of Law and his Master of Laws degree from Georgetown University Law Center.

He resides in Everett, Wash.

Vacancies on the Central Board of Trustees occurred when trustees Mike Sells and Jay Reich completed their terms September 30, 2006.
