New Positions and New Duties for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Staff at CWUNovember 22, 2006 ELLENSBURGWash. - Charlotte Tullos, Central Washington University vice president for student affairs and enrollment management, has announced the promotions of John Drinkwater to senior director of campus life and student facility development, and Richard DeShields to director of university housing and new student programs. "These two are highly qualified and knowledgeable to step into these roles and help us with these positions," Tullos says. "I feel very fortunate to work with both gentlemen. Each brings a great deal of experience and both are extremely student oriented." Drinkwater has been working directly with Central students for 30 years in various positions. Along with his new title, he'll be taking on additional duties, which include more involvement in student facility departments, program development and long term planning for student facilities on campus. Tullos sees this as somewhat of a "new life" for Drinkwater. "John is a very pertinent part of what we're trying to do long term for student facilities on campus," states Tullos. "After 30 years of doing this type of work here at Central, John is taking on a new and interesting twist to his job." Tullos adds the position is more of an outgrowth from Drinkwater's current position and what he already does for the Student Union and Recreation Center. She sees it as an obvious transition for him since he was one of the main leaders in getting the new building completed. Richard DeShields, newly named director of university housing and new programs, has been serving as interim director since early summer 2006. Like Drinkwater, DeShields is also very involved in the long term planning of student facilities and student housing. "I am just so proud of what Richard has accomplished and developed here," says Tullos. "I'm honored that he's willing to take on the position here at Central, especially since people with his background are in such high demand across the country. DeShields heads up programs that deal with student orientation, new student programs, Living Learning Communities and student housing. He's also very involved in the parent's program on campus. "It's an exciting time to be at Central," says Tullos. "We're really excited with where we're going with all these programs that deal with the students directly. We’ve got some great people leading the way." Contact: Teri Olin, (509-963-1416/fax 509-963-2301/e-mail:olint@cwu.edu) |
