ASCWU-BOD Assists 142 Hurricane-Affected CWU FamiliesNovember 9, 2005Contact: Paul Coleman (509-963-1769/cell 509-859-3665/e-mail: colemanp@cwu.edu) ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Even though the storms are no longer front-page news, the Associated Students of Central Washington University board of directors (ASCWU-BOD) is continuing to lead campus outreach to the victims of hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma. That group includes 142 CWU students and their families affected by the storms. "We take care of our own," says Tony Aronica, CWU student body president, referring to the combined efforts of the university and Ellensburg community to aid hurricane victims. To this point, in excess of $3,000 has been raised for relief efforts. More than $2,000 was raised during the "Battle in Seattle" football game between Central and Western Washington University (WWU) on October 8. Recent fundraising events have added another $1,000 to that total. Donations will continue to be accepted through the "Showdown in the Sound" basketball game between Central and WWU on December 18. For more information regarding CWU's continuing hurricane relief efforts, call Paul Coleman, ASCWU-BOD public relations director, at (509) 963-1769. |
