CWU Police Lieutenant Cited For Excellence

ELLENSBURG, Wash.-- Lt. Kevin Higgins, from Central Washington University's public safety and police services, has been selected by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) awards and recognition committee to receive the 2004 Administrative Excellence award at this year's IACLEA annual conference, June 26-29 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

The annual award is presented to an employee of an IACLEA-member campus public safety, police, or security department for outstanding service in areas such as policy and planning, investigations and/or crime prevention.

In addition, new and innovative ideas, cost savings, enhanced administrative techniques, and management ideas are some of the elements that are considered for award selection.

Higgins has served with CWU public safety and police services for the past 25 years as a patrol officer, detective, detective sergeant and, now, lieutenant.

"He's the only lieutenant that the department has ever had," CWU Police Chief Steve Rittereiser says. "He is everything anyone would want in a capable, trusted police administrator. His efforts over the past few years have placed him in a category equaled by few."

IACLEA, founded in 1958, now has a membership of more than 1,000 colleges and universities, located in 20 countries, and 1,600 individual members. Along with the awards program, the association's annual conference contains a professional program and informal participation aimed toward discussions of mutual problems, needs and solutions to law enforcement problems.
