CWU Students Win Prestigious National Award

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Central Washington University student chapter of The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has earned the Superior Merit Award for the 2004-2005 school year, with a total of 3275 points. "Your entire chapter should be very proud of this accomplishment." said Chuck Salvetti, Manager of Student Programs for SHRM.

The annual Merit Award program recognizes chapters for outstanding activities and programs in four broad areas:

  • Chapter support to the professional development of members.
  • Chapter support of SHRM.
  • Chapter support of the profession.
  • Professional operation of the chapter.

All SHRM student chapters are invited to submit an entry, and chapters can earn awards regardless of their size. 133 of the 430 active student chapters submitted applications. 98 chapters earned the Superior Merit Award, and 24 chapters achieved Merit Award status. The entries this year reflected a diverse range of chapters, involvement, and activities.

In addition to receiving the Superior Merit Award, the following chapters (in alphabetical order) will be recognized as the 2004-2005 Top 10 Student Chapters at the SHRM national student conference:

  • California State University- Fresno
  • Central Washington University
  • Eastern Michigan University
  • Meredith College
  • North Carolina State University
  • Southeastern Louisiana University
  • University of Puerto Rico- Humacao
  • University of Puerto Rico- Mayaguez
  • University of Puerto Rico- Rio Piedras
  • Wright State University

"Winning this award demonstrates that your chapter has done an outstanding job of providing opportunities for growth and development to your members." said Salvetti. "It is individuals like you and your fellow chapter leaders that make our organization strong."
