ELLENSBURG, Wash. - An inaugural Central Washington
University ceremony will be held Tuesday, May 27, on the Ellensburg
campus to remember CWU students, current and past employees, and
elected or appointed officials who have had a significant, positive
impact on the university community.
CWU President Jerilyn S. McIntyre will preside at the 8:30
a.m. ceremony at the Gloria J. Craig Memorial Rose Garden, between
Barge and Shaw-Smyser halls. In case of rain, the ceremony will be
held in Barge 412.
“We feel it is appropriate to pause once a year as a
university community to remember all those who have contributed to the
university and assisted us in building a stronger foundation for the
future,” McIntyre says.
Last month, the CWU president’s cabinet approved what will
become an annual ceremony to be held the Tuesday after Memorial Day.
In addition, the cabinet authorized a new university flag-lowering
policy. From Tuesday, May 27, through Tuesday, June 3, on-campus flags
will be lowered to half-mast, following protocol established by the
American Legion and office of the Washington secretary of state, as a
gesture of respect for individuals, important to the life of the
university, who passed away during the preceding year.

disability to arrange for reasonable accommodation, call (509)
