ELLENSBURG, Wash.-- Central Washington University will remember CWU students, current and past employees, and elected or appointed officials who died during the past year at the university's annual memorial service Tuesday, June 1, on the Ellensburg campus.

CWU President Jerilyn S. McIntyre will preside at the noon ceremony at the International Flag Pavilion. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery in Randall Hall.

McIntyre says, "As a university community, we feel it's appropriate to pause annually to remember all those who have contributed to the university and assisted us in building a stronger foundation for the future."

Last year, the CWU president's cabinet approved the annual ceremony to be held each Tuesday after Memorial Day. In addition, the cabinet authorized a new university flag-lowering policy.

From Tuesday, June 1, through Tuesday, June 8, on-campus flags will be lowered to half-mast, following protocol established by the American Legion and office of the Washington secretary of state. The flag lowering is made as a gesture of respect for individuals, who passed away during the preceding year, who had significant, positive impacts on the university.

For more information about the ceremony, or for persons of disability to arrange for reasonable accommodation, call (509) 963-2111, or (for the hearing impaired) TDD (509) 963-2143.
