ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Rev. Joseph Fuiten, president of the lobbying group Washington Evangelicals for Responsible Government, has been outspoken on a variety of subjects, including the role of religion in American politics and government and how that role has changed over the years.

Fuiten will share his views Thursday, May 19, at Central Washington University. His free, public address, titled "Under God and in America," is slated for 7 p.m. in the Samuelson Union Building Cesar Chavez Theater.

Active in politics since his undergraduate days at Willamette University, Fuiten, 54, entered formal church ministry in 1971. He has been senior pastor of Cedar Park Assembly of God in Bothell, Wash., since 1981. He has also served on a variety of boards, including the Governor's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS.

His CWU presentation is sponsored by the CWU College Republicans and Associated Students of CWU office of legislative affairs, with additional support from the university's diversity education center.

For more information about the presentation, or for persons of disability to arrange for reasonable accommodation, call (509) 963-1696, or (for the hearing impaired) TDD (509) 963-2143.
