ELLENSBURG, Wash.-- Central Washington University's College of Arts and Humanities (CAH) will celebrate the achievements of its students, faculty and staff at an awards banquet Wednesday, May 19, at 6 p.m. in the Munson Dining Room on the Ellensburg campus.

"I think it's been a banner year in the college," Dr. Liahna Armstrong, CAH dean, said. "We've had an extraordinary series of student and faculty achievements. It will be a night when we pat ourselves on the back and spread the joy."

Four undergraduate student awards will be announced at the banquet, including the Thomas Gause Award for Achievement in Musical Composition, Betty E. Evans Award for Achievement in Creative Writing, George Stillman Award for Achievement in Art and Raymond A. Smith, Jr. Award for Achievement in Scholarship.

The CAH Graduate Student Scholarship/Artistic Achievement Award and Faculty Scholarship/Creativity Award will also be presented.

In addition, Dr. Terry Martin, CWU English professor, the CASE/Carnegie Washington state Professor of the Year, will again be recognized for her accomplishments. Next year's CASE/Carnegie nominee, music professor Larry Gookin will also be honored.

"It's a celebration of some (people) that have been previously recognized, such as the recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Award and the Distinguished Chair Award," Armstrong said. "All the others will be announced for the first time May 19."

Faculty development awards, such as college grants for summer research or creative projects, will also be recognized, along with those faculty and students whose creative work has been purchased for the college's permanent art collection.

The banquet is open to the public at the cost of an entrée for either $9.75 or $10.50.
