ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington University senior center Rose Shaw (Bellevue-Interlake), the school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder, was named by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference as its Women's Basketball Player of the Year.

Shaw, a four-year letter winner, finished her final year as a Wildcat second in the league in scoring (17.4 avg.) and field goal percentage (.563), third in steals (2.38 per game and sixth in rebounds (8.2 avg.). She scored 1,696 points and grabbed 790 rebounds during her career.

Shaw received half of 10 first-place votes to outdistance Seattle Pacific's Kelley Berglund (32 ballot points to 25) for the award.

"It is deserved," Central head coach Jeff Whitney said of the honor. "Rose was one of the best players in the league last year as a junior. Rose had a stellar year with the Wildcats. We're going to miss what she brings night in and night out."

Guard Meggen Kautzky (Jr., Richland), a three-year varsity performer, was one of 10 honorable - mention picks. She ranked seventh in the conference in three-point field goals per game (1.38), sixth in assist/turnover ratio (1.29), and 17th in steals (42).

"It is an honor as a junior to be selected to an all-league squad," Whitney said. "It is great to see that other coaches in the league appreciated what Meggen did for our team." The Wildcats finished with a 20-6 overall record, their second consecutive 20-win season, and tied for second place in the GNAC with a 14-4 mark.
