ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Noting his 40-year connection to the
university, 1967 alumnus Ed Reich will receive this year’s Central
Washington University “Bridge Builder” during a ceremony, Saturday,
April 5, at 3 p.m. in Tunstall Commons on the Ellensburg campus.
Sponsored by the CWU Foundation, the Building Bridges
Scholarship awards reception recognizes and congratulates scholarship
recipients, thanks donors and gives recipients and their families the
opportunity to meet those individuals who made the scholarships
possible, according to Catherine M. Scarlett, CWU associates and
stewardship assistant director.
The “Bridge Builder” award recognizes a person or persons who
have made an impact on the CWU scholarship program through their
generosity and leadership.
Reich is being honored for his generous donations to the Ed
and Kären Reich Award of Academic and Athletic Excellence Scholarship
Endowment, and his work with CWU athletics and CWU Foundation to
encourage donations to support CWU students. Reich majored in business
administration and played football at Central from 1963 to 1967. Ed,
now a retired executive from Nationwide Insurance, lives in Renton with
his wife Kären, a CWU ’67 alumna.
Guest alumni speaker Jodie Hansen, a 1993 CWU alumna, summa
cum laude, will present the keynote address. While attending CWU,
Hansen received a departmental scholarship, the Sam and Mary Mohler
scholarship and Lillian Bloomer Scholarship.
A graduate of the CWU William O. Douglas Honors College,
Hansen received her mathematics degree from CWU and is now an actuary
with Regence Blue Shield in Seattle.
In addition, she is a member of the American Academy of
Actuaries, associate in the Society of Actuaries, member of the
International Actuarial Association and vice president of the Seattle
Actuarial Club.
As an undergraduate, Hansen served as a Living Group Advisor
in Beck and Carmody-Munro residence halls. Since graduation, she has
been supportive of her alma mater with gifts to the Mathematics
Department Actuary Fund, Bill Owens Scholarship Fund and an Actuarial
Science scholarship fund.
