OLYMPIA, Wash. - Green River Community College sophomore
Matthew Dean, who will transfer to Central Washington University next
year, was among 65 community and technical college students statewide
named by Gov. Gary Locke last week to the All-Washington Academic Team.
The recognition program is part of the All-USA Academic Team for
two-year colleges.
“You are the best and the brightest,” Locke told the students
during an Olympia ceremony. “You deserve to be very proud of your
accomplishments.”
Dean, from Kent, and his fellow honorees received $250
scholarships from Key Bank, which sponsors the event.
Dean, who is majoring in criminal justice, will graduate in
June with an associate in arts degree. His career goal is to become a
forensic scientist. His community service involvement includes
Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), and his research has
been used to strengthen Washington’s DUI laws.
