ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington University was among the award winners at the 23rd annual Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VIII Juried Awards Competition. It was the seventh straight year that CWU has been honored.

This year, Chris Smart, CWU multimedia technology and instructional support (MTIS) coordinator of media productions and development, and Rick Spencer, electronic media producer, received 'Silver' in the electronic media category for "Moments in American History."

Funded through a three-year, $900,000 Teaching American History Grant from the U. S. Department of Education to Tom Christian, from the Thorp School District, the award winning entry was one of a series of 40 mini documentaries that are being produced covering significant events in American history from 1750-2005.

Those productions are one element of Christian's "America's Past Kindles Our Future" program, designed to enhance knowledge, skill and appreciation relative to the teaching of American history.

CASE Region VIII includes more than 100 schools from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, along with the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon Territory.
