CWU Names Student Employee of the YearELLENSBURG, Wash. - Called a "visionary," "creative" and a "quick learner who relishes in learning new and challenging tasks," Robbi Tormey has been selected as Central Washington University's 2006 Student Employee of the Year. Staff member of the CWU Office of Continuing Education nominated Tormey for the award. "Few have embraced their work with the commitment and follow-through that Robbi has displayed for each of the four years she has worked for this office," said Kevin Nemeth, continuing education director. Tormey added, "I was surprised; I didn't expect it at all. I just did my best and I'm glad that I had the opportunity -- and was given the opportunity -- to prove what a good student and good student-employee I was." Tormey, a 2002 graduate of Cheney (Wash.) High School, graduated from CWU at the end of the just completed winter term with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and minor in athletic training. She says she will now pursue a nursing degree. Tormey will be formally recognized as Student Employee of the Year at the CWU Center for Excellence 9th Annual Evening of Recognition on May 24. The event acknowledges unique students, faculty, and staff from around the Central's campus for their accomplishments as an individual or as part of a group. In addition, she will be honored for her achievement at the CWU Honors Convocation on June 9. Tormey's nomination has also been forwarded to the Washington State Association of Student Employment Administrators for its 2006 Student Employee of the Year competition.
