CWU To Honor Achievements Of Women

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington University's Empowerment Center will host its 7th Annual Women's Achievement Celebration Wednesday, March 2, at 6 p.m. in the Samuelson Union Building (SUB) Chavez Theatre on the Ellensburg campus.

Sponsored by the center for student empowerment, the celebrates and publicly acknowledges individuals who have "helped women with their life journey."

The awards dinner honors women and men - including students, staff, faculty, and community members - who have excelled in providing avenues to increase success for women in the CWU and Ellensburg communities.

The individuals to be honored this year are: Robyn Hull, local business owner of Salon Fenix; Gina Popovic, public policy lead organizer at Planned Parenthood of Central Washington; and Dr. Karen Hendricks, CWU psychology professor.

In addition, Steve Rittereiser, CWU director of public safety and police services, will receive the "Keys to Success" award and the non-traditional "Student Empowerment" award recipient will CWU senior OraLynn Manweller, who is majoring in mechanical engineer technology.

The banquet will include a vegetarian-friendly pasta dinner. followed by a keynote address by Gwen Chaplin, President/CEO of Planned Parenthood of Central Washington, who will discuss "Measures of Success."

Tickets are $6 per person and are available at the Ellensburg Chamber of Commerce (cash or check only) and the CWU SUB Tent & Tube/Ticketmaster. They will also be available for $8 at the door.
