ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Robert E. Holtfreter, a Central Washington University Distinguished Professor of Accounting and Research, is the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Outstanding Educator of the Year.
The award recognizes Holtfreter’s excellence in classroom teaching and his involvement in the accounting profession. He has held high-level leadership positions in numerous organizations, including the American Accounting Association (AAA), Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), North American Accounting Society (NAAS) and the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants (WSCPA).
For the AAA, which has more than 9,000 members worldwide, Holtfreter has served on numerous standing committees and task forces. He has also served as president of the Midwest Region, president of the Western Region, and president of the Accounting, Behavior and Organizations Research Section, all of which have annual conferences. He now serves as past-president of the Western Region and is a member of the education committee and the advisory council.
The CWU professor is one of the NAAS founders and serves as a member of its board of directors. He has also served on the board of directors of the Tri-Cities chapter of the IMA, which has more than 7,5000 members worldwide. He also is on the ACFE research committee, which has more than 25,000 members throughout the world.
Holtfreter is an advisory council member for the WSCPA Career Systems Taskforce, and on the board of directors for the WSCPA Yakima chapter.
Additionally, Holtfreter has served on the editorial boards of 14 journals, including The Accounting Review, and Auditing: A Journal of Theory and Practice, which are two of the more prestigious accounting/auditing journals in the world. He serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Forensic Accounting, which is the premier journal in its field.
Holtfreter has published numerous articles in various journals and conference proceedings. He has also served on a number of civic and charitable committees.
