Women's History Celebrated At CWUMarch 9, 2004Contact: Molly Fortin (509-963-1493/fax 509-963-2301/e-mail: fortinm@cwu.edu) ELLENSBURG, Wash.-- The Central Washington University center for student empowerment will honor the history of women's achievements as part of Women's History Month through March 12. The center's celebration includes a life-size timeline that describes significant dates for women in history from 1848 to 1994. The timeline will remain on display in the Samuelson Union Building (SUB) Chief Owhi Room through the end of this week. The center is also sending CWU history students to visit local elementary schools and educate fifth-grade classrooms on women's history. After stopping by Kittitas Elementary last week, they plan to discuss history with Valley View Elementary students Thursday, March 11. "Domestic Violence in Same Sex Relationships" will be presented by the diversity education center and the center for student empowerment at noon on March 11 in the SUB Pit. Finally, social activist Star Parker will speak on "Breaking the Cycle of Poverty" at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, in the SUB Cesar Chavez Theatre.
