ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Citing professional and personal reasons, Dr. Jay D. Kenton has notified Central Washington University President Jerilyn S. McIntyre of his decision to withdraw from the position of vice president for business and financial affairs. Kenton had been scheduled to take office on July 1, subject to the approval of the university’s board of trustees.

“I was disappointed to learn of Dr. Kenton’s change of heart,” McIntyre says.

McIntyre announced today (Thursday, June 6) that she has appointed Rich Corona to the permanent post. During the 2001-02 academic year, Corona, CWU associate vice president for business and financial affairs, served as interim vice president for business and financial affairs.

“I’m delighted that Rich has agreed to continue the work he has already begun,” McIntyre adds. “He is a highly-respected member of the university community, a person of high integrity and a valued member of our administrative team.”

Corona has served in senior financial, contracting and facilities management positions at CWU for the past 17 years.

“I’m honored to be able to serve in this vice-presidential capacity,” Corona says, “and join what I consider to be a dynamic and forward-thinking leadership team.”

Prior to coming to Ellensburg, Corona was a procurement and facilities development officer for Transamerica Corporation in Los Angeles for 15 years. His financial and administrative experience included real property acquisition and facilities development, in both the public and private sector.

Corona earned his bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University of California, Riverside in 1966. He earned a master’s degree in organization development from CWU in 1991. He is also a 1997 graduate of the Stanford University Executive Leadership and Management Institute.

Corona was among five finalists for the CWU vice presidential position, selected from among a pool of nearly 100 applicants and screened by a 15-member university search committee comprised of faculty, staff, students and community members.
