Red Curtain Revue Back at Central for Second Year

July 9, 2008

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- A full evening of dance numbers and show tunes awaits you as the Department of Theatre Arts at Central Washington University presents "Red Curtain Revue: Two Times the Fun." Performances are Friday, July 18 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 19 at 2 p.m. in the Milo Smith Tower Theatre in Ellensburg.

This lively revue is the culminating project for 23 students attending the second annual Musical Theatre Summer Conservatory (MTSC), which began July 5. The two-week program brings singing, acting and dancing together into one comprehensive, intensive experience for students.

"More than a dozen of the students in the revue are either currently enrolled CWU students or will be new freshmen in the fall," says Dr. Terri L. Brown, who is the director of the conservatory and will head the new Bachelor of Fine Arts Musical Theater program at CWU this fall. "These are the bright new talents that will be gracing our stages in musical theatre productions for years to come, and this summer audiences will be able to get a sneak preview of the quality of programming that will result from our new Bachelor of Fine Arts program."

David M. Brown, who was recently hired as the new musical director for the Department of Theatre Arts, is serving as Musical Director. Choreography and dance training is being provided by Anneliese Childress, who just completed direction of "Smoke on the Mountain." The Brown-Brown-Childress trio worked together most recently on the Central Theatre Ensemble spring production of "Peter Pan."

The revue consists of popular and some lesser-known musical theatre tunes, as well as lively dance numbers. The show is suitable for family audiences, but not for children who are unable to sit and enjoy a two-hour production. No babies in arms will be permitted in the theatre.

Tickets for "Red Curtain Revue: Two Times the Fun" are currently available online at www.cwu.edu/~theatre/tix or by calling 509-963-1760 during business hours to purchase tickets by phone with a VISA or MasterCard. The box office is open one hour prior to each performance.

"Last year the production sold out," says Leslee Caul, director of marketing and development for CWU' Department of Theatre Arts. "This year we have added a second performance, but are still recommending advance tickets to ensure seating for what promises to be another engaging evening of entertainment."
