Auditions Set For Central Theatre Ensemble Winter Production

December 1, 2003

Contact: Milo Smith Tower Theater Box Office (509-963-1774)

ELLENSBURG, Wash.-- Auditions for the Central Theatre Ensemble winter quarter production of William Inge's "Bus Stop" will be held Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. in Studio 119, in McConnell Auditorium. Those auditioning are asked to prepare a one-to-two minute dramatic or comic monologue, preferably from an American Modern (1940s-1950s) or contemporary comedy/drama.

Non-theatre majors will be provided with material to read if they do not have prepared monologues. A callback list will be posted Dec. 3, and callbacks will be held that evening, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m.

The play has a cast of three woman and five men. Directed by CWU theatre arts department chair George Bellah, the play begins when a busload of strangers find themselves stranded in a howling late-winter storm at a roadside cafe.

The central characters are Bo, a young rancher from Montana, who insists on marrying Cherie, a stubbornly unwilling sexy chanteuse, because he has "been familiar" with her. But as we meet the others, we learn that each is weathering a personal storm and looking for answers to the loneliness that plagues them.

Rehearsals begin Jan. 5. Performances are Feb. 26 and March 4 at 7 p.m.; Feb. 27-28 and March 5-6 at 8 p.m.; and Feb. 29 at 2 p.m.

If you have any additional questions or would like to become involved in a non-acting capacity, or are interested in a theatre minor, please contact Bellah at bellahg@cwu.edu or (509) 963-3410.
