CWU Hopes Gala Will Help Gather Gifts For Seriously Ill ChildrenDecember 15, 2004Contact: Nate Harris (509-963-2848/e-mail harrisn@cwu.edu) ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington University's Civic Engagement Center and Office of Alumni Relations along with Starlight Lounge, Starbucks Coffee Company and Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation will be sponsoring "Gift Upon A Star," a holiday gift-raising gala on Friday, December 17, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Starlight Lounge. The event is open to the public and admission is at least one unwrapped children's toy or book. "The goal of the event is to gather as many gifts as possible to give to seriously and terminally ill children who often spend the holiday season in the hospital or in pain," says Nate Harris, CWU Office of Alumni Relations special events coordinator. One of the primary roles of the CWU Civic Engagement Center is to engage students in community activities that prepare them for responsible citizenship and help to improve the lives of others. The gifts will be sent to children via the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation, an international non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for seriously ill children and their families. Starlight's programs are designed to restore some of the laughter and happiness that a serious illness can take away from children and those who love them. Although the gala is being held for a serious cause, the festivities will focus on the true spirit of the season by celebrating life and sharing with others. Glitzy attire is welcomed and a Starbucks Coffee Company Prize will be awarded for the most festively dressed attendee. |
