News and Headlines : Central Transit Adds Three Stops |
Central Transit Adds Three StopsELLENSBURG, Wash. - Based on patron feedback, Central Transit has added three new stops, bringing to 14 the number pick-up and drop-off points for the CWU student transportation system, created to provide transportation for students to business areas within the Ellensburg community. The new stops are University Way and Main Street (near the Pizza Hut), Canyon Road and South Ruby (near McDonald's) and Ruby and Mountain View (at Super 1 Foods). "We've added these stops because of the enormous success of the program," says Steve Rittereiser, CWU assistant vice president for business auxiliaries and public safety. According to Hope Source Transportation Director Larry Anderson, Central Transit averages more than 100 riders per day and the numbers are continuing to increase. "We have already surpassed 15,000 rides for the year," Anderson points out. Central Transit was created through student input and in partnership with the university's student government, Hope Source and the CWU department of public safety and police services. It went into operation last October. Central students pay $3 quarterly fees to support the program. A Central Connection card is needed to board the bus. Central Transit operates Sundays through Thursdays from 2 p.m. to midnight and until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. With two busses on the routes, wait times are typically less than 15 minutes, according to Rittereiser. Following is a list of the up-to-date Central Transit stops
