CWU Army And Air Force ROTC Awards To Be PresentedELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington University's Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps Wildcat Battalion and Air Force Detachment 895 (AFROTC) are preparing to host their 18th Annual Presidential Day Retreat and Awards Presentation on Friday, May 19, at 1 p.m. in front of Peterson Hall on the Ellensburg campus. The ROTC units will hold a full, military-style parade to honor the support from the university and local community. Additionally, annual cadet awards will be presented by local and national organizations. A reception will immediately follow the proceedings. CWU President Jerilyn S. McIntyre will officiate at the event. Other reviewing officials will include: Dr. Rebecca S. Bowers, dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies; Lt. Col. Rodney F. Laszlo, department chair and professor of military science, and commander of Army ROTC Wildcat Battalion; and Lt. Col. John P. Bryant IV, department chair and professor of aerospace studies, and commander of AFROTC Detachment 895. Both CWU ROTC programs have long histories of excellence. Once a mandatory program for all male students enrolled at the university, the program now meets the needs of the all-volunteer force. ROTC provides enhanced leadership and management training, and instills the military ethics and skills necessary to meet the challenges of today's armed forces. Cadets not only focus on their academics and military training, but also contribute to a wide variety of community service activities, including American Red Cross blood drives, American Cancer Society "Daffodil Days" and Yakima River clean-up.
