CWU Forum To Focus On Math And Science Education

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Earlier this year, the National Academies of Sciences (NAS) published the report "Rising Above the Gathering Storm: Energizing and Employing America for a Brighter Economic Future."

This congressionally requested report concluded that the U.S. is losing its competitive edge in science and technology. Among its recommendations is increasing America's talent pool by vastly improving K-12 mathematics and science education.

During a presentation at Central Washington University, Dr. Nikolay Zagoruiko will discuss his extensive personal experiences in educating scientists as a professor and provost at Novosibirsk University, one of the top Russian universities, and as director of a research lab at the Russian Academy of Sciences, a leading research institution.

His free, public presentation is set for Wednesday, April 26, at 3 p.m. in science building 101. It will be followed by a panel discussion of the challenges and opportunities arising from the NAS report. For more information about the presentation, sponsored by the CWU computer science department, or for persons of disability to arrange for reasonable accommodation, call (509) 963-1495, or (for the hearing impaired) TDD (509) 963-2143.
