ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Three Central Washington University students have received awards through the Bloomer Scholarship, made possible by an anonymous donation to the university’s Douglas Honors College as a way to honor Lillian Bloomer.

Bloomer, a CWU education professor from 1925 to 1960, was interested in the literature and writings of William O. Douglas. Faculty of the Douglas Honors College Program selected the three scholarship recipients.

They are:

  • Mark Green, a sophomore from Olympia. Green, a music major, is the principal bassist in the CWU orchestra and chamber orchestra and also serves as a residence hall assistant. He is a 2000 graduate of North Thurston High School.
  • Kathryn McGinnis, a sophomore from Pasco, majoring in biology. While at CWU, she has volunteered with the Wildcat Wellness Center, served as a peer mentor and worked as a tutor for academic achievement programs. She is a 2000 graduate of Pasco High School.
  • And, Jonathan Thomson, a junior music major from Custer, co-principal cellist of the CWU orchestra. He’s a 2000 graduate of Ferndale High School.
