CWU to Commemorate 'Holocaust Remembrance Day'ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Established in Israel in 1959, Yom HaShoah ("Holocaust Remembrance Day") is a national holiday in that country and commemorated annually around the world in memory of the Jews who where killed during the Holocaust. Central Washington University's philosophy and religious studies department and the university's Jewish student organization, with assistance from the Washington State Holocaust Education Resource Center, will sponsor a free, public presentation in conjunction with the 2006 Holocaust Remembrance Day titled: "Remembering the Holocaust: Remembering Dachau." Slated for Monday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m. in Science Building 147, it will be led by Dee Eberhart, World War II veteran, CWU professor emeritus of geography and the university's 1980 Distinguished Public Service professor. On April 29, 1945, while serving with the National Guard's 42nd Infantry (Rainbow) Division, Eberhart participated in the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp in southern Germany, where an estimated 32,000 people were killed.
