CWU Student Is State's Employee Of The Year

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Gov. Chris Gregoire has proclaimed April "Student Employment Month" in Washington. And, Central Washington University can lay claim to the state's top student employee. The Washington State Association of Student Employment Administrators (WSASEA) has selected Robbi Tormey as its Student Employee of the Year.

Tormey, who graduated from CWU at the end of winter quarter with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and minor in athletic training, was among the nominees for the award, submitted between January and March. The WSASEA board of directors determines the winner based on established criteria involving reliability, quality of work, initiative, disposition and attitude, longevity, apparent adaptability and uniqueness of contribution.

Last week, during the WSASEA spring conference at the Rainbow Lodge in North Bend, Wash., Tormey was honored and received a $100 savings bond for her accomplishment.

She will also be formally recognized as CWU's Student Employee of the Year during the Center for Excellence 9th Annual Evening of Recognition on May 24. In addition, she will be honored for her achievement at the CWU Honors Convocation on June 9.

Tormey, a 2002 graduate of Cheney (Wash.) High School, says she will now pursue a nursing degree.
