ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Dr. Marjorie Morgan has been appointed dean of the Central Washington University college of arts and humanities, according to Dr. David Soltz, CWU provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. She will begin her new responsibilities on July 1.

Morgan earned her Ph.D. in modern British history and master's degree in British history at Tulane University, and her bachelor's degree in history from Rice University. She is currently a history professor at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (SIUC).

Her SIUC administrative experience have included as director of undergraduate studies in history, university-wide administrative intern, chair of the college of liberal arts, teaching and learning committee, and, since 2000, history department chair.

"Dr. Morgan is a clear, engaging and articulate advocate for the arts and humanities and a supporter of the shared values of student centeredness," Soltz says. "With her deep understanding of diversity, professional success in alumni development and view of administration as creative work, Marji possesses the energy and vision to lead the college of arts and humanities."

Morgan was selected from a strong pool of four finalists for the position, Soltz adds.
