ELLENSBURG, Wash. - To observe both Arbor Day and Earth Day,
Central Washington University will host a combined celebration on
Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the lawns east of the
university Science Building.
Presented by a number of campus and community groups, the
event will feature a variety of hands-on activities and learning
opportunities for all ages to enjoy, according to Anne Majsterek, one
of several student coordinators of the project.
“It will just be a fun day of celebrating the Earth and
learning to appreciate its vast resources,” she says.
Those attending will have the opportunity to tour CWU’s
greenhouse, make Earth-related crafts, visit informational booths and
view demonstrations in the “Enviro-Zone,” hear live music by “Alder
Road” band and enjoy a free barbecue lunch.
In addition, in cooperation with CWU, Starbuck’s will sponsor
a “Ganges Clean Up” that will restore the banks of the Town Ditch,
which runs through campus and neighboring areas.
“We depend on the Earth everyday, so we need to take time to
celebrate it,” Hilary Shemanksi, student coordinator, adds.
